The first Achill Sheep Show, at Patten's Bar, Derreens, was held on the 6th of September 1986. The show was advertised for a 10am start. it was a relieved committee that welcomed the first of the entrants at 12 noon. A happy farmer leisurely apporached in his Massey with a turf trailer full of sheep. A procession of cars, vans and all sorts of trailers carrying would-be winners followed. The show was born!
Irishtv.ie presented their show on Sky Showcase (Channel 201) from the Achill Sheep Show last Thursday (20th of October). If you missed the broadcast, you can still watch the program on www.irishtv.ie.
A special welcome and thanks to all the farmers who have exhibited at our show over the past 25 years. The high quality of the sheep on view from the outset has made our show one of the most acclaimed hill sheep shows in the west. We have enjoyed meeting shepherds from far and wide and look forward to seeing you all in the years to come. Many thanks to all the judges, whose hard work and expertise have contributed to the success of the show.
